A picture taken on Polaroid brings back more memories than the ones we take on our smart phones today, and aspiring personalities like BALAJI MOORTHY encourages us to click a picture with its true essence and feeling, reaching out to numerous hearts.
Balaji recollects of being extremely fascinated by his father’s camera at a very young age, on observing this, his father gifted him his very own personal camera. His father urged him not to waste the camera film on random pictures but to click pictures which could express feelings and moments of life, from then on the whole desire for capturing a moment in time began and has continued for more than a decade.
Opportunities came knocking at his door only years later when he was pursuing his engineering degree at NIT, Warangal, where seeing his interest in photography, a close friend suggested that he join a photography workshop with the famous award winning wildlife photographer SUDHIR SHIVARAM in Madhya Pradesh, India. Once he got back from the workshop, impressed by his newly developed skills and photographs The President Group, Clarion Hotel President gave him his first breakthrough in photography as a commercial photographer to cover one of the most recognised national fashion show events at NIFT, Chennai, ‘FASHINOVA’. He later went on to become the main event photographer at his college as well as cover many other national events like SUNBURN, COKE STUDIO and VH1 by Super Sonic Pro Nights. As he realised that he had an inclination towards fashion photography, he urged himself to take up training under reputed fashion photographers in Chennai, G. VENKET RAM and KARTHIK SRINIVASAN. This laid down the path towards collaborating with one of the most renowned beauty and hair salon experts, JAWED HABIB enterprise and SHASHANKA Salon and Spa, to further carry out many fashion photo shoots for them as well as many other well known fashion designers and brands.
His next exciting venture made it’s way when he was introduced to motorsport photography, where he got the opportunity to cover national and international racing championships at Kari Motor Speedway, Coimbatore, Madras Motor Race Track, Chennai and Buddh International Circuit, New Delhi. The growing recognition of his work, got him a chance to do a portfolio shoot for India’s Boxing sensation and Arjuna Award winner, MANDEEP JANGRA. Upon completing his graduation Balaji moved to New Delhi to learn cinematography and was successful in setting up his personal studio in the heart of the city, where he continued doing fashion photo shoots for famed brands and designers. His photography career took a great leap when he was offered to work with the sensational Academy Award Winner, A.R RAHMAN, where he currently works with great determination and passion to capture events and various other musical shows by the star himself and his team.
Balaji has come a long way from the little boy who was fascinated by a film camera to an extremely talented and vigorous photographer using all the latest technologies to create wonders. But his journey was not a cake walk, there were innumerable instances when he was rejected and not given a chance to prove himself. But he never gave up and kept persuading himself to beat the odds and move forward to achieve his goals.
Today, he is a one of the most prominent figures many amateurs look up to. Despite of his innumerable laurels and immense talent, Balaji remains humble and rooted and unaware of the degree of success that he has achieved, this is what makes him truly extraordinary! He is positive that there are greater and better horizons that he has to scale. Believing that there is always more to learn, more feathers to add to his cap and more beauty awaiting to be captured, Balaji plans not to rest, until he has sought out, his idea of a great perhaps.
